Geneseo Migrant Center:
The Center and the State

The Geneseo Migrant Center works closely with other New York State migrant service agencies to share training, technical assistance, and expertise in several program areas. The Migrant Education Outreach Program (MEOP) Consortium links the Center, Cornell University's Migrant Program, and local MEOPs at Batavia, Brockport, Cortland, East Bloomfield, Fredonia, Herkimer, New Paltz, Oneonta, Oswego, Potsdam (North Country), and Riverhead (Suffolk-Nassau Counties).

Migrant Even Start and CONNECTIONS work through local MEOPs to support family literacy and parent involvement with schools. WIN (Women in the Nineties) and GAIN (Getting Ahead in the Nineties) workshops for young women and men also have state-wide impacts.

In 1988, the Center joined with other organizations to form Working Together, a regional migrant service agency alliance. Working Together coordinates inter-agency programs. It also networks with other advocates to call for changes in state laws affecting migrants. Farmworker Advocacy Day is an annual event at the State Capitol in Albany.
