Overview
of Services |
| The
Geneseo Migrant Center provides a variety of services to migrant
farmworkers residing in the immediate service area of the Center
as well as coordinating programs benefiting migrant workers on
a regional, statewide and national level. |
| The services of the Geneseo Migrant Center are administered by two organizational entities: the Genesee Valley Educational Partnership, an intermediate educational agency serving twenty-two school districts and the Geneseo Migrant Center, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit community services agency. |

| In
Camp ABE / ESL / GED Instruction |
| Teams
of instructors provide adult basic education instruction
throughout the migrant season in area camps. Instruction
stresses the improvement of reading levels or English
as a Second Language through the use of survival skills
or other relevant learning activities. |

| Migrant
Dental / Health Programs |
| A
medical team offers in-camp screenings, mid-level care
and referrals while a dental team provides education,
examinations, cleaning, fillings, extractions and dentures
in offices in Mount Morris, New York. |

| Creative
Artists Migrant Program Services (CAMPS) |
| CAMPS
provides arts activities including music, arts and
crafts, drawing and painting, photography, dance and
mime and juggling. Field trips to various art activities
and events take place throughout the season. The project
preserves and displays traditional arts and practices
through various art exhibitions. |

| Migrant
Literature Project |
| Poets
and fiction writers present readings of their own work
and/or the work of other writers as well as conducting
writing workshops for migrant workers. |

| Document Heritage Project |
| A survey is being conducted of historical
documents related to area potato farming with African American
and Haitian workers. Funded by the NYS Education Department. |
|
| Esperanza |
| Special educational and support services
for migrant children who also meet Federal criteria as
homeless. Administered through the East Bloomfield Central
School. |

| Genesee Valley Migrant Education
Outreach Program (MEOP) |
| The Genesee Valley MEOP serves children whose families
have moved across school district lines for employment
in agriculture. Service area extends over 6 counties
and 36 school districts where family educators, teaching
assistants, and outreach workers are engaged in tutoring,
adolescent outreach, summer educational programs, and family
literacy and support activities. |

| Families Accessing Naturalization Services
(FANS) |
| The FANS program assists Legal Permanent Residents in
central and western New York through the citizenship process.
Bilinual staff provides outreach services that include
application completion, Civics/ESL classes and free legal/representation
(as needed). Administered by the Oswego County BOCES. |

Migrant EVEN START |
| Mobile
Migrant EVEN START provides educational opportunities
for migrant farmworker families in New York State through
services at Migrant Education Outreach Program (MEOP)
sites in Batavia, Brockport, Cortland, East Bloomfield,
Fredonia, Oswego and Potsdam. The program is funded
by New York State Even Start. |

| Promesa
Migrant EVEN START provides educational opportunities
for migrant farmworker families in New York State through
services at Migrant Education Outreach Program (MEOP)
sites in Herkimer, New Paltz, Oneonta and Riverhead.
The program is funded by New York State Even Start. |

| ¡ALCANZAR! EVEN START |
| ¡ALCANZAR! collaborates with NYS Migrant Education
Outreach Programs, the Florida Migrant Interstate Program
and MEES Bright Beginnings program to provide year round
family literacy services for migrant families moving from
Florida and Texas to work in New York. Funded by U.S. Department
of Education, Migrant Education EVEN START (MEES). |

PASS Center |
| The
National PASS Center coordinates the revision and development
of Portable Assisted Study Sequence (PASS) courses
and serves as a repository for course work and supplemental
materials. |

Getting
Ahead In The New Millenium (GAIN)
and Women, Options and Work (WOW) |
| GAIN,
for young men between the ages of 14 and 22, and WOW,
for young women between the ages of 14 and 22, provide
3-day career retreats during which participants visit
career sites, talk with role models and take part in
discussions and confidence building activities. This
program is funded by NYS Migrant Education. |

| Geneseo Migrant Center Clearinghouse |
| The
Center has assembled a comprehensive collection of materials
on migrant farmworker issues. Staff fill numerous requests
for information from this collection. The Center also
operates a toll-free hotline. |

| The
Emily Mattera Memorial Fund for Migrant Farmworkers |
| This
fund provides emergency assistance to migrant workers. |
|
| Toys That Teach |
| Toys
That Teach provides new, educational toys to the children
of migrant farmworkers. |
